Only in Cape Girardeau!
Cape Girardeau, the largest city between St. Louis, Mo., and Memphis, Tenn., entertained visitors in 2012 from all 50 states as well as from several Canadian provinces and foreign countries. Visitors come for a variety of reasons: group tours, conferences, amateur sporting events, educational seminars, business travel, family vacations, and more. In fiscal year 2012 our hotel tax collections were up by more than 8.3 percent over fiscal year 2011. Year to date, in fiscal year 2013, our hotel tax collections are up by more than 11 percent as compared to the same time frame in fiscal year 2012.
Over the course of the last decade, Cape Girardeau has enjoyed an influx of new attractions, such as the Red House Interpretive Center, the Missouri Department of Conservation's Nature Center, the Mississippi River Tales Mural, the Missouri Wall of Fame renovation, Red Star Access, a complete renovation of the Fort D Historic Site, extension of the Riverfront Trail, extension of the LaCroix Trail, the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University, the Old Bridge Overlook, the Discovery Playhouse Children's Museum, Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center, Lazy L Safari Park, LeBounce, Isle Casino Cape Girardeau and more.
Given all that has taken place and continues to take place in the area of destination development, Cape Girardeau is well positioned in the future to see further increases in visitor spending by lengthening the time that guests spend in our community in order to experience all of the attractions and events that Cape Girardeau now has to offer.
Here you can hike any number of beautiful trails, stroll across a covered bridge, shop for that one-of-a-kind vintage heirloom in a veritable treasure trove of antique stores, play at one of our family friendly attractions, enjoy a world class theater production, view murals that stretch the length of the entire historic downtown area, or step back in time at any number of historic attractions.
In promoting Cape Girardeau, the Convention and Visitors Bureau uses a number of marketing tools including public relations, advertising, social media, our website, visitor's guide, brochures and rack cards, a promotional DVD, and appearances at expos and trade shows. Whatever a visitor's travel needs may be, the friendly and professional staff of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau stands ready to help meet their needs.
While the bureau's mission rightly implies that its services are primarily designed to reach and draw in those from outside the area, the Visitors Center has information that local citizens will find beneficial as well, such as a comprehensive restaurant guide, a detailed city map, the official state maps of Missouri and surrounding states, and a wide variety of visitors guides and brochures for both local and regional cities and attractions.
The resources of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitor's Bureau can be easily accessed at 400 Broadway, Suite 100. For more information, call 573-335-1631 or 1-800-777-0068. Or visit the bureau's website at visitcape.com. Or email info@visitcape.com.
