ANNA, Ill. -- Paintings, weaving, charcoal drawings and mixed media by Cape Girardeau artist Nathan Elder are on display at the Shawnee Community College Anna Extension Center through October.

Elder will graduate from Southeast in December with a bachelor's degree in fine art.

A frightful time at St. Louis Zoo

ST. LOUIS -- "Edward Jones Boo at the Zoo" will be presented from 9 to noon Saturday at the St. Louis Zoo.

Children and adults are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes for trick or treating along the Pumpkin Trail. There will be treats, entertainment, activities and surprises. A costume parade will begin at noon near the Sea Lion Basin.

Admission is free.

'T-REX' movie to open at IMAX Theater

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- "T-REX: Back to the Cretaceous" opens Nov. 3 at the Union Planters IMAX Theater at the Memphis Pink Palace Museum.

The movie is a story about the 16-year-old daughter of a world-famous paleontologist who discovers a fossilized T-rex egg. She wanders the corridors of the natural history museum beginning a dreamlike adventure through prehistory.

The movie was filmed on location at Dinosaur National Park in Alberta, Canada, and Washington state.

'Southeast Showcase' planned Thursday

The Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation will hold a "Showcase Roundup at the OK Corral" Thursday at the Show Me Center. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., with western-style food and traditional favorites from more than 30 restaurants and vendors.

The Chosen Few, a high-energy band from Nashville, Tenn., will perform from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Romanian artist to show work in Jackson

JACKSON, Mo. -- Romanian artist Bogdan Achimescu will give a slide lecture with images of Romania and Poland, his travels and his art Nov. 5.

The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. in the third-floor community room at City Hall.

Achimescu is a visiting assistant professor at the University of Arizona. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the national galleries in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Germany and Spain as well as public collections in Venice, Moscow, Tokyo and Sao Paolo.
