Honors Wind Ensemble to perform Saturday
The 2002 Southeast Missouri Honors Wind Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Academic Auditorium.
The group is composed of 50 high schools students chosen by audition from 60 Missouri school districts.
Dr. Robert Gifford, a professor of music and coordinator of winds and percussion at Southeast, will conduct the ensemble.
Members of the Southeast music faculty will present clinics on each instrument during the day Saturday.

Botanical Garden presenting programs
ST. LOUIS -- Programs at the Missouri Botanical Garden through the end of January include:
"Fruits of Decay: Mushrooms of the Midwest," a photographic exhibition presented from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. through Feb. 22 in the Ridgway Center.
Garden StoryTime, ages 4-10, "Herbology in the Muggle World: The Medicinal Uses of Plants." Botanist Sandy Knapp reads from Harry Potter and shares amazing faces about useful plants, 11 a.m. Jan. 19, Ridgway Center.
"Alfred Russel Wallace in the Amazon: The Making of a Naturalist," lecture and book signing by botanist Sandra Knapp from the Natural History Museum in London, 4 p.m. Jan. 23, Ridgway Center.
'Funny Girl' at SIU
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- "Funny Girl," the Broadway musical about the life of vaudeville comedienne Fanny Brice, will be presented Feb. 8 at Shryock Auditorium.
Brice debuted in "A Royal Slave" in 1910 and went on to perform in the Ziegfeld Follies for the next 24 years.
"Funny girl" ran for 1,348 performances on Broadway, starring Barbra Streisand in the original run. It includes such songs as "People," "Sadie Sadie" and "Don't Rain on My Parade."

Circus Sunday at Arena Building
The SunShine Circus will be presented in two shows Sunday at the A.C. Brase Arena Building.
The circus features leopards, a comedy car, aerialists, acrobats, elephants, clowns and more.
Shows are at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
'Stars of the Dixie' Jan. 19 in New Madrid
NEW MADRID, Mo. -- The Dixie Players will present "Stars of the Dixie" at 7 p.m. Jan. 19.
The show at the Dixie Theatre will be a mixture of music and comedy for the entire family.
Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
Artists and song search offers $50,000 in prizes
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The New Artist and Song Search sponsored by Embassy Music of Nashville will offer more than $50,000 in prizes, including a single song publishing contract for the grand-prize winning song.
The winning artist's single will be distributed nationwide to Christian radio.
Judges and panelists include Kent Coley of Forefront Records, Darwin Moody of Embassy Music, Rendy Lovelady of Rendy Lovelady Management, and Jill Wright of Mike Atkins Management.
