According to a 2011 survey by Brides, the average cost of a bridesmaid dress is $134. That's a big investment for a dress you'll wear one time.

Fortunately, more designers are making bridesmaid dresses that don't look more like something you could wear to a cocktail party or fancy dinner. But once you know it's a bridesmaids dress, it's hard to see it differently.
