Slaten - Shaw

Stephen and Martha Slaten of Cape Girardeau announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura Elizabeth Slaten, to Joshua Ryan Shaw. He is the son of Calvin and Vicki Shaw of Troy, Mo.

Slaten is a 2002 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2006, and received a master's of education in curriculum and instruction from the university in 2007. She is an elementary classroom teacher with Columbia Public Schools.

Shaw is a 1999 graduate of Troy Buchanan High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in agricultural systems management from the university in 2003. He is employed by Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Co. of Iowa.

A July 12 wedding is planned at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
