Hatley is a 1995 graduate of Charleston High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in accounting and business administration from William Jewell College at Liberty in 1999. She is a financial analyst at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City.

Owen is a 1993 graduate of Oran High school. He received a bachelor of arts degree in communications from William Jewell in 1997. He is an on-site supervisor in Overland Park, Kan., with Fred Pryor Seminars.
