ENGAGEMENT: HARNES-DIFFENDAFFER

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Retired Navy Capt. and Mrs. James J. Harnes Jr. of Advance and Cape Girardeau announce the engagement of their daughter, Lori Lavelle Harnes, to Joel Brian Diffendaffer. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Diffendaffer of Scottsbluff, Neb.

Harnes received a bachelor of music degree in oboe performance from The Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., in 1995. She received a master's degree in performing arts management from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1997. She is general manager of the New York Philomusica Chamber Ensemble in New York City.

Diffendaffer received a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music in 1996. He is employed by Digital Impact and is a free-lance singer.

A July 14, 2001, wedding is planned in Cape Girardeau.
