Five people were injured at 5:58 p.m. Sunday in a two-car accident on U.S. 61, two miles north of Fruitland.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Gina Phillips, 22, of Jefferson City, Mo., pulled her 1997 Toyota into the path of a 1992 Chevrolet driven by David Snider, 29, of Jackson while attempting to make a left turn on to U.S. 61.

Both drivers were injured. Phillips was taken by helicopter to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. The patrol listed her injuries as moderate.

Snider was taken by ambulance to the same hospital also with moderate injuries.

A passenger in Phillips' car, Christina Kelley, 21, of Cape Girardeau, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis.

Two passengers in Snider's car were also injured -- Patrick Holt, 42, of St. Mary, Mo., and Greg Snider, 27, of Perryville, Mo. Holt was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center. Greg Snider was taken to an undisclosed hospital by private vehicle.

The patrol said charges are pending.
