The warrant for suspected explosive devices was issued after a Jackson police officer taking a previous burglary report at the residence became suspicious. "The officer reported seeing questionable items the resident was bragging about," said police Lt. James Humphreys. ATF agents recovered a "hoax device," according to Sonny Wilson, assistant special agent in charge of the Kansas Field Division. He did not know more about the device.

During the search, officers found a quantity of marijuana. Bond for Withers was set at $7,500.
