Beef recalled for possible mad cow contaminants

A Fruitland company is recalling more than 4,000 pounds of beef because of possible mad-cow disease contaminants. The USDA issued a news release Wednesday, saying Fruitland American Meat is recalling the meat because the dorsal root ganglia, or branches of the nervous system in the vertebral column, may not have been completely removed. It's considered a "specified risk material" and must be removed from cattle 30 months old and older, according to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service...

In advocating for the "Right-to-Farm" bill, U.S. Rep. Jason Smith claims that agriculture is the largest industry in Missouri (Southeast Missourian, June 4, 2014, p. 3A). I appreciate your coming by and filling the potholes with asphalt on Kenneth Drive, but you've made it worse than it was before. The gravel or the concrete that was popping out of the holes is still on the street that you didn't sweep up. You threw asphalt in the hole and left everything as is, and the concrete pieces that came out of the holes are sharp on the edges and are going to punch holes in our tires out here...
