About once a week last year, the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at Route K and Interstate 55. That's according to data the department released listing the number of accidents police reported on last year. Construction crews closed three blocks of College Street, from Sprigg to Benton Streets, on Monday to prepare for the new Route 74 that will be part of the new Mississippi River bridge route in Cape Girardeau. When it comes to pigging out, nobody does it better than a dairy cow. They enjoy chewing the cud with their friends and neighbors. The Cape Girardeau County Jail has experienced severe overcrowding in recent weeks. The jail, which comfortably holds 60 prisoners, had a record 101 on Jan. 19. Judges were told to delay the start of some sentencing, and some individuals serving weekend sentences were given a weekend off to minimize overcrowding. Other inmates received an early release...
