JSU has selected seven regional university partners to assist in expanding the Collaborative Regional Education (CORE) Initiative nationally. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, CORE is aimed at transforming K12 and higher education through innovative technology and teaching methods.
In 2013, JSU was awarded an $11.67 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s highly competitive Investing in Innovation (i3) program. Now entering its third year, the university is expanding the CORE model and implementing a rigorous research study of approximately 40 classrooms in 8th-12th grades across the nation.
Southeast Missouri State University is one of the seven regional universities partnering with JSU in this expansion. The other universities include:
• Fayetteville State University, North Carolina
• Savannah State University, Georgia
• Tarleton State University, Texas
• University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Arkansas
• University of North Carolina at Wilmington, North Carolina
• West Texas A&M University, Texas
The partner universities will work with local school systems to implement the CORE model, which is comprised of partnership building, technology, professional development, project-based learning, classroom support, and preparing students to be college and career ready.
