Executive Director Karen Green is pleased to announce the addition of Kit Brewer to the staff of Southeast Missouri Food Bank, which has served Southeast Missouri since 1985, bringing together available food resources to assist those living in poverty.
Southeast Missouri Food Bank, affiliated with Feeding America, the nation's food bank network, distributes food to over 145 agencies in sixteen counties in Southeast Missouri. Senior nutrition centers, church food pantries, soup kitchens, domestic abuse and homeless shelters, and rehabilitation centers are examples of the types of agencies who benefit from hunger relief efforts.
Brewer, a native of Ironton, Missouri, graduated from Mineral Area College in Park Hills. For the past five years he has worked with the Central Missouri Food Bank in Columbia, heading their mobile food pantry, USDA and children's programs, and serving as Operations Director. Brewer previously worked as a site manager with Bridging the Gap, a non-profit recycling and informational organization in Kansas City.
Of his new position, Brewer says, "I am exited to be joining the Southeast Missouri Food Bank staff. Everyone seems dedicated to meeting the growing need. I hope to bring my experience in strategic planning and program building into the mix."
"I look forward to meeting with the many individuals from the community who already have a relationship with Southeast Missouri Food Bank," Brewer said. "Food banking is a very personal career choice. Its challenges are made easier to overcome because of the support and dedication of the communities it serves."
Southeast Missouri Food Bank's goal is that no one in Southeast Missouri will go to bed hungry at night. Their mission is to promote food recovery; acquire and distribute food and household products; and provide community leadership and education on issues of hunger and poverty in an effort to relieve hunger in the region.
Brewer can be contacted at Southeast Missouri Food Bank's administrative offices, located at 3920 Nash Road in Cape Girardeau or by calling 573-651-0400. Visit www.semofoodbank.org for more information.
