A ground breaking for a new library at Cape Central Junior High School (CJHS) is set for 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct 20, at 205 Caruthers, and ribbon cuttings are scheduled at Jefferson, Alma Schrader and Clippard Elementary Schools. Construction projects resulting from the $40 million bond issue approved by voters last year have been completed at these three elementary schools, and scheduled completion date for the CJHS library is August 2012. Jefferson's ribbon cutting is set for October 31, at 11:00 a.m. The event at Alma Schrader will be at 11:00 a.m., November 1. Clippard's ribbon cutting will be November 1 at 1:00 p.m.
The one-story brick CJHS library addition will be located on the northeast corner of the school. The 8,300-square-foot multi-media center will contain a classroom, conference room, computer lab, check-out desk and book stacks integrated with open reading areas. The classroom and conference room will enable teachers to actively use the library in their curriculum, according to Neil Glass, Assistant Superintendent. He said the dynamic design and bright colors of the reading area will provide an ideal space to encourage students to read and work.
