Rex Crosnoe, a 16-year veteran of education, was named principal of Cape Central Middle School (CMS) at an executive session of the Cape Girardeau Board of Education Monday night.
Crosnoe served five years as assistant principal at CMS. The school has approximately 600 fifth and sixth-graders and 70 staff and faculty.
Crosnoe is a Cape Girardeau native and member of Cape Central High School's Class of 1991. He met his wife, Nikki, in high school-- they married in 1997 and have three children attending Cape Public Schools: Cooper, 12; Gunner, 9; and Carter, 7 years old.
Crosnoe earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southeast Missouri State University. Before joining Cape Public Schools he coached football and baseball for eleven years at Jackson Public Schools.
"CMS is a melting pot for Cape Girardeau kids," Crosnoe said. "It's the end of their neighborhood schools. They all come together here and learn to get along with a much larger community than they have experienced before."
The new principal said the biggest change he has seen in his sixteen years in education is the new technology. "Smart boards, computers, clickers--it's all totally different now. When I started, the only computers in the system were in our offices. Now our students are as computer literate as we are!"
