RASCALS Announces Scholarship Awards
ST. LOUIS, June 1, 2011 -- The Robert A. Stehlin Campaign for ALS (RASCALS)
announced today that it would begin accepting applications and essays for the
new RASCALS Higher Education Scholarship Program. The awards were made
possible by the RASCALS Foundation, along with a special matching gift from
Walgreen's.
There will be two scholarships awarded for the 2011-2012 academic year in the
amounts of $3,500 each. All applicants will submit a 1000-word essay on the
theme: "How ALS Has Influenced You."
"We've been working very hard to spread awareness on behalf of all ALS
patients, but felt we could also do something special for some of our individual
families, too," said Robert Stehlin, founder and president of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit,
public charity. "RASCALS is extremely grateful to the leadership at
Walgreen's for their participation in this scholarship project. Their generosity will
definitely help to change lives in our ALS community."
Mr. Stehlin, who was diagnosed in September 2009 with ALS, said the disease
impacts the entire family. While there are all sorts of challenges, it is extremely
important that families remain positive and forward-looking.

"Life doesn't stop just because you've been diagnosed. It's just the opposite," he
explained. "We should all be taking advantage of every single moment to keep
doing the important things, like improving our lives, ourselves. This should never
change, because this is what living is all about. And that's the intended spirit of
these scholarships."
Those eligible for the RASCALS Scholarships are ALS patients or their family
members. The awards will provide assistance in their pursuit of higher education,
and may be used for any scholastic-related need, such as tuition expenses and
schoolbooks.
Selection will be made on the basis of various criteria, including school activities,
scholastic achievements, awards, and community projects, in addition to the
contents of the essay.
Applications for this year's scholarships will be accepted through August 31,
2011. Recipients will be determined by the Board of Directors of the RASCALS
Foundation, and notified on or before September 30, 2011,
Complete program guidelines and applications are accessible on the RASCALS
website at http://RascalsFoundation.org/. For help or additional information,
you may also contact Mr. Stehlin at 636-464-6704, or Mr. Greg Reagan, the
RASCALS Treasurer, at 314-960-3629.
