The Perry County Middle School was recently selected to receive the distinguished Missouri School of Character (MSOC) award. The award is sponsored by the Character Education Partnership and participating State Schools of Character sponsors.
As a state winner, the school serves as a model within the state where they can share best practices and develop a state-level mentoring network among educators.
"We are so proud and happy about this recognition," said Principal Velda Haertling. "Perry County Middle School is one of only nine schools in the entire state of Missouri to be awarded this recognition. This validates our success in bringing character development to a quality level for our students and its positive impact on our school. It's nice to know we are being recognized for our work and success."
In addition, the Missouri School of Character (MSOC) Committee forwarded the Perry County Middle School application on to the Character Education Partnership with a recommendation to have them recognized as a National School of Character.
The purpose of both the National and State Schools of Character awards is to identify, honor and showcase exemplars in character education and facilitate their leadership in mentoring others. The goal of the national program is to provide a variety of models of comprehensive, quality character education, representing America's diverse educational system.
