Old Town Cape's 21st annual Parade of Lights was a winner in many ways. Not only were there certificates awarded to the best entries, but the Marine Corps League collected an overwhelming number of toys from the audience for their Toys for Tots drive.
"We collected a lot more toys than expected. The count isn't final yet, but we are very satisfied with the results," said Richard Bollwerk, the Toys for Tots coordinator for Southeast Missouri with the Marine Corps League Cpl. Mason O. Yarbrough Detachment #1081.
First, second and third place certificates were awarded to entries in categories including theme,appearance (classes A and B), enthusiasm, best music and best lighting. In addition, a chairman's certificate was awarded.
Theme winners were Southeast Health (First Place), Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center (Second Place) and Hutson's Fine Furniture (Third Place).
Class A (over 25 feet) appearance winners were Anderson Broadcasting (First Place), Downtown Antiques (Second Place) and American Cancer Society (Third Place).
Class B (under 25 feet) appearance winners were Bethlehem General Baptist Church (First Place), Hutson's Fine Furniture (Second Place) and Trend Setters School of Cosmetology (Third Place).
Best enthusiasm winners were Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center (First Place), Trend Setters School of Cosmetology (Second Place) and Downtown Antiques (Third Place).
Best music winners were Fellowship Baptist Church (First Place), Mississippi River Radio (Second Place) and Cape West 14 Cine (Third Place).
Best lighting winners were Anderson Broadcasting (First Place), Crossroads Fellowship (Second Place) and The Printing Company (Third Place).
The chairman's certificate winner was The Printing Company.
