A couple of years ago I wrote a story for my bike blog about looking for signs of the New Madrid Earth Quake.

John Gorentz, AKA Spokesrider, a bike tourist and historical blogger, was intrigued. After reading about Cape Girardeau on my other blog, he decided to ride his bike from Battle Creek, MI, through Cape to New Madrid.
We both happened to be in Cape at the same time, so he took a rest day so I could take him and his wife sightseeing around the area. One of the places we visited was Fort Defiance at the tip of Illinois, where the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers meet.
