CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- New readiness non-commissioned officers have taken their positions for the Missouri National Guard at the 1140th Engineer Battalion's Headquarters Company in Cape Girardeau and the 1138th Engineer Company in Farmington.
Unit readiness non-commissioned officers oversee and manage training and operations for the company on a daily basis. They also coordinate and assist with scheduling for use of training sites and facilities for the company as well as supervise the training, administration and supply NCOs of the company on a daily basis.
Sgt. 1st Class Agnes Eyler -- who has worked in full-time Guard administration for 12 years -- recently replaced Sgt. 1st Class Mark Crites in Cape.
"I actually have been enjoying it," Eyler said. "I've been doing admin so long, that this is a nice change of pace. I really think I'm going to like it."
Eyler, 38, began her military career in the active-duty Navy before joining the Missouri National Guard in 1995. She has held full-time Guard positions since 1997 in Cape Girardeau. She started out as the unit clerk before becoming the assistant to the senior personnel sergeant before taking over as senior personnel sergeant.
"I think I'll like this job because I work well with others," she said. "I also like to multi-task and am good at juggling several different tasks. So this job is a good fit."
Crites, who is originally from Farmington, moved to a position in Farmington.
"I'm glad to be back home," Crites said. "I enjoyed my time at the 1140th, but I got my start in the Guard at the Farmington unit and it's nice to be back."
Eyler is supported in her military career by her husband, Larbo, and their four children: Joanna, 22, Ashley, 20, Laura, 15 and William, 13.
Crites is also supported by his family, which includes his wife, Kim, and their three children: Billy, 22, Todd, 15, and Tricia, 11.
