New McKendree United Methodist Women
General Meeting
November 4, 2014
The New McKendree United Methodist Women met Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall with 14 members and 4 guests present. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Doris Dace after which the unit recited the UMW Purpose.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Janice Burk substituting for Secretary Pam Buck. Minutes were approved as read. Two pieces of correspondence were read.
Copies of the treasurer's report were shared with the group. On hand in the Local Fund is $1595.23. Doris Dace noted that our 2014 pledge had been met.
Julie Combs led a Memorial Service to remember Mary Smith, Joan Illers, Janet Piepenbrok, and Vesta Mae Meyer. Family members in attendance were John and Martha Smith, Jill Holekamp, and Donna Illers.
Refreshments were served prior to the business meeting.
Chairperson reports:
Spiritual Growth-Julie combs included a devotion in the Memorial Service.
Social Action- In Donna Mason's absence, Doris Dace reported that our November collection will go toward Christmas for the needy.
Education & Interpretation- no report
Membership, Nurture, & Outreach- in Inez Statler's absence Doris Dace reported that the committee had been making visits and sending cards.
Mission RIbbonCoordinator: Janice Burk highlighted two new mission ribbons available for purchase.
Bereavement Committee: Elwanda Corbin and Millie Rose reported serving one bereavement meal in October.
The Esther Circle won the attendance ribbon for this month. Wesleyan Circle will serve the Jackson Manor Birthday Party on December 2 at 1:45 p.m
Elwanda Corbin gave a report on the Fall District UMW Meeting in Poplar Bluff on October 18.
.Cake assignments were made for the December 13 chili/soup dinner. Bonnie Blechle reported that the committee has suggested to also serve sandwiches at an additional charge.
The next meeting will be on December 2 at 7:00 p.m. with the Members-at-Large presenting the program and Mary and Martha Circle serving refreshments. Officers will be installed.
Doris closed with a reading from the Prayer Calendar.
