Missouri House Honors Kappa Alpha Order from Westminster College
JEFFERSON CITY, MO- The Missouri House of Representatives recognized the Alpha Eta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order from Westminster College with an official resolution on Wednesday for their national accomplishments and impact in the community.
The resolution was presented to the chapter by State Representative Jeanie Riddle, R-Mokane. "These gentlemen have received the George C. Marshall award as one of the top Kappa Alpha Order chapters in the country for three of the last five years," said Riddle. "What's even more impressive is that this chapter of Kappa Alpha Order was one of only five fraternities in the country awarded the Chapter Award of Distinction by the North-American Interfraternity Conference."
Over the last few years, the fraternity has started local philanthropy programs that are now being implemented at a national level. "Their members collect money every Sunday as part of their Brothers for Others program to make sure our homeless community in Fulton is fed," explained Riddle. "They also launched the Brothers for Mothers initiative with a local sorority to help women in the Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARDV).
"Our goal is to recruit members who share our core principles and shape them into leaders on and off campus," said Kappa Alpha Order President Thomas Bohnert, who accepted the resolution on behalf of the chapter. "It doesn't matter if it's in the classroom, in the community, or on the intramural field, we are competitive and push each other to succeed."
In addition to their philanthropic efforts, the 63 member chapter recorded a 3.4 GPA last semester and they have won the intramural championship at Westminster College 15 of the last 16 years.
"They represent the best of the fraternity world, which says a lot about the college and the quality of the education they are receiving on multiple levels through their experience as students and members of the Greek community at Westminster," said Dr. James M. Schmuck, who graduated from Westminster College in 1972 and currently oversees all of the Kappa Alpha Order chapters in Missouri.
Officers from Kappa Alpha Order were joined at the Missouri State Capitol by Westminster College President Barney Forsythe, PhD and alumni advisors at the state and national level.
