At what age did you start running?

At the age of 49 I completed my first 5k (City of Roses) and finished last with a 47 minute time. But was determined to be better, stronger, healthier. So I'm continuing this journey until my lungs tell me I cant.

Why did you start running?

I was having breathing issues and soon found out I had COPD on top of my asthma. Though never having smoked in my life, I knew I had to make a lifestyle change to be as healthy as I could be..., to keep breathing. Also, I do have a short bio on my Facebook page that has been published by the COPD Athlete site from Australia.

What is your best 5K time after turning 50?

34 minutes officially. A great improvement from the 47 minute time two years prior.

What is the race/time you’re most proud of since turning 50?

Recently finished a half marathon in 2 hours and 24 minutes in Seattle Washington. For some, that is no big deal. But I'm running only in competition with myself, to be the best I can be. Where also, my husband qualified for The Boston Marathon!

What’s the longest distance you’ve ever run since turning 50?

40 miles oficially, 42 unoficially. This was at the Aslinger endurance run this year.

What’s your favorite local route to run?

Arena park down Broadway along the river, around red star by the Isle of Capri and back up Broadway to the arena. Downtown Broadway is my favorite part!

The thing I enjoy most about running is:

The feeling of health it brings, and the amazing friendships I've made.
