I am actually from New Jersey, but was lucky enough to meet Rochelle Steffen at an animal advocacy event in Washington DC a few years ago, and have been following Mac's Mission ever since.
Rochelle, founder of Mac's Mission is from Cape Girardeau, MO. One of the many thing Rochelle and Mac do in addition to providing funds for animals in need of medical care is to donate pet oxygen masks and tanks to fire departments. As you know, yesterday was National Dog Day, and I saw this on their facebook page and I think you have some heroes in your state! Both Mac the Pitbull, and the local Fire Department! I love it that a pitbull helped save a tiny kitten! :
FROM The Cape Girardeau Fire Department's page:
"How's this for NationalDogDay:
Today, around 9 a.m., we responded to a home for a kitchen fire. Firefighter Andy Matthews managed to find the family's tiniest member, this little black puppy, hiding under the bed. The pup was brought outside, where Firefighter Justin Siemers gave the pup some oxygen from one of the pet masks the department received last year by donation from Mac the pitbull's fundraiser. The little pup was just a little shaken up and around some smoke, but pup and family are doing fine."
These firefighters are true heroes!! Please help me thank them either here or on their page!!! A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO JUSTIN!!!
A side note: This is the third local pet in my community able to be helped because of my Missions free donation!!! I will be donating a second kit to them tomorrow for a second truck. I have given out a bunch of these free kits across the country and while I hope they never get used I am happy the trucks are equipped with them if needed. I still have a handful of free kits available from my FEBRUARY fundraiser!! It is amazing how many departments won't call my grunts back when we call to offer them a kit for free. If you would like your department to be considered for one of the remaining free kits, please have someone from your department email macthepitbull@yahoo.com
Today is a great day for this little girl and her puppy. Thank you to everyone who always support my efforts to pay it forward to those that need it most.
Love,
Mac, happiest boy on the planet right now."
