CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Pfc. Timothy Lester, of Millersville, recently completed his military training to become an infantryman for Missouri National Guard's Company C, 1/138th Infantry Regiment in Perryville.
"I joined the Guard because I wanted to be there for my state and country in a time of need," Lester said. "I've always wanted to be an infantry Soldier for the United States Army."
He graduated from basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga., Nov. 12, 2010.
Prior to training, Lester served with Company E of the Recruit Sustainment program in Cape Girardeau. Through the program, he learned basic Army skills and values and became more familiar with his role as a Soldier in the Missouri Army National Guard.
Staff Sgt. Jeremy McGuire, recruiter at the Cape Girardeau armory, said Lester will be a great Soldier for the infantry company.
"He's always had a strong desire to serve his country," said McGuire. "In the Missouri National Guard he can fulfill his dream and hopefully his positive attitude will inspire his new battle buddies."
Lester will begin serving with his new unit in January 2011.
Lester is the son of Adam and Vicki Swafford, of Millersville. He is a 2009 graduate of Central High School, and is currently attending Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.
