On Dec. 1, 2009, residents and associates experienced a special treat as Jimmy Rhodes, director of music services for Life Care Centers of America, and singer Larry Blackwell performed at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau, Mo.
"They entertained us with 'Name That Tune,' old-time songs and Christmas carols," said Christy Leimer-Farrow, admissions and marketing director at the facility. "They brought smiles to our residents' faces, and most of the residents could be seen singing along to songs from their time. Jimmy entertained us on the cornet, trombone and piano."
The musical duo also signed CDs at the event.
"It was really good," said residents Zelma and Joseph McNew. "We got three of their CDs autographed and have listened to them several times. We like that they played music that we know."
Rhodes and Blackwell often perform together in Life Care facilities across the country. Rhodes also gives solo performances as a kind of one-man band, playing a variety of instruments, including the trombone, trumpet and keyboard.
