Jackson, MO. -- Eight students and two advisers from Jackson Senior High School represented the state of Missouri at the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida June 28-July 1, 2011. The eight Jackson students that qualified to attend are Jordan Thomas, Michael Riney, Victoria Schweer, Emily Holloway, Kathy Scienski, Ray Hecht, Ashley Stahlman, and Rachel Smith. Competing in FBLA-PBL's national awards program, Jackson FBLA vied for top honors in Introduction to Business Communication, Electronic Career Portfolio, American Enterprise Project Report, Parliamentary Procedures, and Digital Design & Promotion. Students competed against state representatives from across the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Guam, the Cayman Islands, and the Department of Defense schools worldwide.
At the Awards of Excellence program, it was announced that Michael Riney earned 1st place in the nation in Electronic Career Portfolio; and, Rachel Smith earned 9th place in Introduction to Business Communication. Jordan Thomas and Victoria Schweer were also recognized for achieving the America Level of the Business Achievement Awards.
The competition is part of a competitive events program sponsored annually by FBLA-PBL, a professional association for students pursuing business careers. Individuals, local chapters, and state teams compete in over 50 events representing a range of business, career, and leadership development activities. The winners of these challenging and prestigious awards are selected from FBLA-PBL's over 215,000 members, and have won regional and state competitions to qualify for the national awards program. The approximately 8,000 delegates to the 59th annual conference elected national student officers and attended business and leadership workshops in addition to competing in business and career skill events.
This year's national theme, "FBLA-PBL: Breaking Barriers!" reflects the goals of FBLA-PBL members, some of the best and the brightest of today's young people. Jackson FBLA is proud to continue the tradition of excellence not only in the State of Missouri, but in the nation as well.
