Easter Egg Roll 2010

On April 5, 2010, Trevor, Mary, Jacob and Kayleigh Milam attended the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House in Washington DC. This year's theme was Ready, Set, Go promoting health and wellness. Trevor, who is a medic in the U.S. Navy, and 20 other soldiers from Cherry Point and Camp LeJeune, North Carolina were picked to attend this event with their families. They received this honor after their essays, about why this trip would be a good opportunity for their families, were chosen during a contest held at the two military bases. Trevor's essay was about the difficulties of being away from his family during his six month deployment to Afghanistan from May to November of 2009 and how this trip would be a good opportunity for them. The soldiers and their families boarded a bus in the early morning hours of April 5th for the 6 hour trip, arriving in Washington a little before noon. They enjoyed a day of face painting, refreshments, meeting characters from Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer on the White House lawn. Story Hours were held during the day with the President, Mrs. Obama, Reese Witherspoon and many others reading stories to the children. They also received a 2010 White House Easter Egg Roll wooden egg souvenir with the signatures of the President and Mrs. Obama. Approximately 30,000 people attended the event this year. They even caught a glimpse of the President and Mrs. Obama. It was a long, hot and tiring day but a day they will never forget.
