Dr. Ruth Ann Orr named 2016 American Legion Teacher of the Year

Dr. Ruth Ann Orr, principal of Alma Schrader Elementary School, was named the American Legion Teacher of the Year for 2016. Orr, who has taught for 34 years, started an annual Constitution and Heroes Day Assembly in 2002 when she came to Alma Schrader. For this assembly the school invites public officials, soldiers, fire department members and police officers to come and be thanked for their service. An award ceremony will be held March 16 to honor Orr, and she will be presented with a $500 award and a Teacher of the Year plaque.
