Five baby robins are without their mother after Friday's wind storm toppled the blue spruce tree where their nest was located in Shawneetown.
Renae Petzoldt found the nest on a limb near the ground on Saturday. She relocated the nest to a nearby snowball bush.
Then she and her sisters, Cynthia Sinden and Tina Riehn, placed the birds back in the nest.
Tina's husband, Mark, found a worm that had crawled from the ground and divided it among the young robins. His chain saw disturbed several worms with the vibrations.
Since then, Tina's mother, Esther Petzoldt, has been feeding worms from a bait shop to the baby birds. She continues to keep watch on the birds.
"They've got feathers, just not enough for flying," Tina said. "We hope God helps the birds survive this new adventure."
