College-bound students benefit from A+ program
College-bound students at Cape Central High School are defraying college expenses while the local community is benefiting from tutoring and mentoring the students provide at no charge, thanks to the innovative A+ Scholarship Program, which has grown dramatically at CHS. Two years ago, ten students were eligible for the scholarship, and this year the number has nearly quadrupled. According to Program Coordinator Janet Rueseler, "CHS participants have individually contributed at least 50 hours of tutoring and mentoring at no charge to area students. In addition to keeping their own grades and attendance up, our A+ students have mentored and tutored at CHS, CJHS, Middle School, most of the elementary schools, Boys and Girls Club and The Bridge.
The Class of 2013 contributed 2535 tutoring hours. A+ Scholarship funds pay the tuition and general fees at community colleges and vocational/technical schools.
