Cape Girardeau, Missouri October 28, 2015
The Civil Air Patrol - Trail of Tears Composite Squadron is holding a fundraising event on October 31, 2015 from 8:00 am through 2:00 pm at the Walmart Supercenter located at 3439 Williams Street.
The fundraiser will help support the squadron provide educational opportunities for both cadets and senior members in search and rescue, emergency services, aerospace education, drug demand reduction, and other cadet programs. Multiple times per year, the squadron attends various events designed to educate in these areas. The squadron uses fundraising to pay for these events to prepare cadets and senior members in case of a local or national emergency as well as prepare cadets for post-secondary endeavors.
This year, the squadron has participated in Orientation Flights designed to allow cadets to gain flight experience with qualified pilots in CAP aircraft. The squadron attended communication training in Bonne Terre as well as a personalized tour of the Bonne Terre Space Museum. The cadets attended Encampment at Fort Leonard Wood this summer as well as Aerospace STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Academy where they learned rocketry and participated in flight line marshaling. The Squadron also completed several tasks related to emergency services and search and rescue training such as Community Emergency Response Team training, and CPR and First Aid. This year at the annual Wing Conference, Certificates of Recognition for Flight Line work at the Aerospace STEM Academy were awarded to those who attended, the squadron was nominated for Squadron of the Year and the chaplain, was nominated for Chaplain of the Year.
