Cape Central High School students earned numerous individual and team first, second and third-place awards during the Math Field Day competition at Southeast Missouri State University in April. In the individual events, out of 25 schools and 575 students, Central students brought home 9 out of a possible 44 awards. In the team events, Central students brought home 4 out of 7 possible awards.
Individual award recipients include:
Vikas Rudrappa -- 1st place in Algebra 2
Amanda Evans -- 1st place in Geometry Open
Max Abbott -- 2nd place in Algebra 1
Emily Diamond -- 2nd place in Geometry Open
Chleo LeGrand -- 2nd place in Trigonometry Open
Claire Herbst -- 2nd place in Probability
Sushil Sobti -- 2nd place in Elementary Data Analysis
Sydeny Messerli -- 3rd place in Hand Calculator
Alex Gentle -- 3rd place in 10th grade Geometry
Team contest winners are:
Geometry team - 1st place. Members were Alex Gentle, Emily Diamond, Amanda Evans, and Tessa Valleroy.
Algebra 2 team - 2nd place. Members were Vikas Rudrappa, Aaron Mehner, Alex Mehner, and Josh Greaser.
Medley team - 3rd place. Members were Geoffrey Pettet, Kelsey Martin, Claire Herbst, and Lizzie Nussbaum.
In the problem solving event, CHS took 2nd place overall. Cape Central's Math Team sponsor was Math Teacher Caroline Thornburgh.
