A remarkable and sad period of American history, the Civil War, is the subject of Hollywood movies, novels, history books, and now, thanks to the efforts of the Civil War Round Table of Cape Girardeau, it will be enhanced in the social studies curriculum at Cape Central Junior High School (CJHS). Pictured above left, James Hitt, Social Studies Department Chair at CJHS, accepts a set of 8 DVDs from C. W. "Dub" Suedekum, Vice President of Civil War Round Table. "The American Civil War" is authored by Professor Gary W. Gallagher of the University of Virginia, author of more than 100 articles and books. The series covers the events of 1860--President Lincoln's election-- to the period following the War. "This professional production will be an enrichment of our education program, and we are very appreciative for this gift," Hitt said. All 8th -graders study early American History, which covers the period of European discovery to the end of the Civil War.
