Hayti, MO -- Mr. A. C. Logan recently celebrated making the final mortgage payment on his Habitat home located at 406 S. Sixth Street in Hayti, MO. With the help of Dale Humphries, President of the Board of Directors, Habitat for Humanity-Cape Area, Inc., and Becky Fluchel, Cape Area Habitat's Office Manager, Mr. Logan tore up the mortgage documents signifying complete retirement of all debt remaining on his home.

Since its formation in 1986, Cape Area Habitat has built with the help of donors and volunteers, and sold 43 homes to working Habitat partner families like Mr. Logan. Mr. Logan is the first Habitat homeowner in Southeast Missouri to complete all the payments on his Habitat home mortgage, cause for celebration. The $50,000 mortgage Habitat granted to Mr. Logan 20 years ago in 1990 did not charge him any interest on the loaned money. He has lived in his Habitat home since December 11, 1990, and according to Mr. Logan, "the time since has passed pretty fast. It's just great to pay off the last payment and own my own home free and clear."
