Brownies in Troop #64002 in Cape Girardeau wanted to help all students stay safe while playing during recess. The girls created posters that promote safety on their playgrounds. While learning teamwork in three groups, they designed the poster layout, identified specific safety issues and injuries they have seen or incurred themselves, then assembled and decorated three posters to be displayed at their schools. After their projects were completed, they learned the importance of using the proper chain of command to receive permission for their displays. The girls learned leadership and by taking action they can make a difference to others no matter how old you are.
The girls in this troop attend two schools namely St. Mary School and Alma Shrader Elementary School located in Cape Girardeau. After receiving approval from both principals, their posters were displayed for students to remember safety tips as they rush out the doors for recess. St. Mary School displayed one poster in the Kindergarten through Eighth grade building and one in their new Pre-K program building.
This project was chosen by the troop as they continue to earn their Safety Sense Try-It and their Brownie Safety Award. What did you do today?
