Harrah's in Metropolis, Il recently hosted a book presentation. Sins of the South was presented to Robert Winchester, Illinois 19 District Republican State Committeeman by the author Maureen Hughes.Over 200 attended the presentation. Sins of the South is the true story of Lester 'Shot'Winchester, Robert's father. In the 1940's and 1950's Shot Winchester owned a classy nightclub called Club Winchester north of Cairo, IL. Big named entertainment and fine dining drew people from Chicago, St. Louis, KY, and IN. in 1956 Winchester was found mortally wounded and later died in Cairo, IL. The official ruling was suicide though the inquest jury requested the state re-investigate the case due to weak witness testimony and the poor handling of evidence. This was never done. A questionable death caused Robert Winchester to have Hughes re-open the case. Hughes, an investigator and true crime author, spent tireless months obtaining detailed research, and ample evidence to present a precise conclusion. "I have never seen some of the pictures of my dad that are in the book. Maureen did a wonderful job of answering a lot of question I and many others have wondered about. I am grateful the book was written." Stated Robert Winchester.
