My Aunt Hettie Owings graduated highschool in Columbus, KY probably in abuot 1918 or 1919. She immediately got a job teaching on Wolf Island. She was asweet, timid southern lady and was not prepared to deal with what she described as the savage children she was supposed to teach. She lived with a family and never had any respite from these kids who were no doubt decendents of the river pirates who settled the island way abck in the 1700's. She spent one semester and got out of Dodge as quickly as her petite little southern lady feet could carry her back over to Columbus.
I would like to find out if there are any records available on Wolf Island, KY from the that time back in 1918 or so. Aunt Hettie never comlained but I can imagine the horror my sweet, tiny aunty experienced at the hands of that rowdy, uncouth, unwashed brood.
