During the Award Luncheon two members from the Cape Girardeau Brain Injury & Stroke Resource Group were recognized. Ryan Benton received the Courageous Award. Ryan is a Ten Year Survivor of a TBI he had back in May of 2006. Ryan will gladly tell you his story and the importance of the Brain Injury Support Group he is a member of. He and his family struggle every day with the after effects of brain injury; but this does not hold Ryan down. Ryan is very outgoing and thanks God for his recovery. Elizabeth Schott received the Service Excellence Award in Community Service. Elizabeth is a Fifteen year survivor of an AVM (Arterial Veneous Malformation) and stroke. Elizabeth volunteers her time at different functions that the Brain Injury & Stroke Resource Group holds throughout the year. Such events include the 10% Tuesday at Gordonville Grill and the SEMO Dist Fair. Elizabeth tries to help educate others on the importance of Safety Helmets and of Brain Injuries themselves. Elizabeth is a great advocate to her cause.
