Churches continue to be healthy, vibrant

The U.S. economy has been sour for more than a year, and the effects have been felt in almost every financial area. But in Southeast Missouri, churches continue to buck the current financial trends. Churches are growing, and the expansion of religious facilities that began in earnest several years ago shows no signs of abating.

Currently, there are four major church-expansion projects in the works affecting Cape Girardeau congregations at First General Baptist Church, La Croix United Methodist Church, First Assembly of God and First Presbyterian Church.

All four churches say they have run out of room in their existing facilities. That's good news. And the plans to meet those needs are more good news.

Churches are a vital part of any thriving community. We are blessed in this area to have vibrant churches to satisfy the thirst for spiritual involvement.
