Letter to the Editor

War plan sounds like 1963 plan to invade Cuba

To the editor:

Put not your trust in princes. -- Psalms 146:3We are informed that our nation's foremost danger is the head of government in Iraq. No proofs are given to support such a claim. Repeatedly asserted is the need for entering into war with Iraq.

Our national situation too closely resembles that described in "Body of Secrets" by James Banford about the Joint Chiefs of Staff's "Operation Northwoods" that in 1963 proposed launching a secret war of terrorism to trick the American people into supporting an ill-conceived war against Cuba. Under the plan, innocent people would be shot on American streets, boats of Cuban refugees would be shot on the high seas, terrorism would be launched in Washington and other cities, people would be framed for bombings they didn't commit and planes would be hijacked. However, President Kennedy decided no military force would be used on Cuba. Not too much later the military had Vietnam.

World War II was the last war in which the American fighter knew he was fighting to destroy a monstrous evil. If there is a need to go to war against Iraq, bear witness of the facts so a candid electorate and military can be sure we are on the correct side.
