LETTERS: PRAYER GROUPS SOUGHT FOR SCHOOLS

To the editor:

Thank you for your April 22 article by Tamara Buck, "Many left speechless by killings," which helped to introduce many readers to Moms in Touch International. MITI is a Christian prayer ministry which has been active in the Cape Girardeau and Jackson areas for at least seven years. As the article said, Moms in Touch is made up of groups of two or more moms (or grandmothers or aunts) who meet for one hour each week to pray for their children, their specific schools, teachers, staff and administrators. There are more than 30,000 Moms in Touch groups around the world. In our area, there are currently nine different groups: Cape Christian, Central Junior High, Central Senior High, Clippard Elementary, Schultz, Jackson (Orchard, South, West Lane, Middle), Jackson Junior and Senior High, College, and an early-morning group for employed moms. All of these groups extend an invitation to any interested moms to join them.

While we recognize there are no guarantees that because we pray our schools and our children will be trouble-free, we know God works through the prayers of his people. There is much evil around us, but how much evil have we been spared because of prayer.

The goal of Moms in Touch International is that by the year 2003, every individual school in the United States would have a specific group of moms praying for it. This is the desire of each of the existing groups for our area, and much prayer and effort have gone into one day seeing that goal realized.

As you can see from the list of schools above, there is still much work to be done. It only takes two committed moms to start a group for a specific school. I would be happy to assist in organizing groups, training leaders and helping interested moms connect with the appropriate group. Is the time right for you to make prayer for our schools a priority? If you are a mom who believes that prayer makes a difference, and you would like more information about the Moms in Touch effort to frustrate Satan and bring glory to Jesus Christ, please call me at 335-2038.
