LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: SUPERINTENDENT'S ACTIONS BESPEAK LACK OF SUPPORT OF ADMINISTRATORS

Southeast Missourian,

The school superintendent's decision to allow non-qualified students to participate in the High School Commencement exercises, on surface appears to be, something about nothing. Surely, accumulating a specific number of credit hours during tenure in High School has little to do with the projected success of the student. It does, to some degree denigrate the efforts of the other students that are deserving of participating in this ceremony, but their efforts over four years will reflect their character and responsibility and will serve them well in their individual futures.

It is apparent to most of us that the superintendent's decision reflects more upon his lack of leadership in support of his faculty and school administrators than it does upon the students involved.

Hopefully, this incident will not polarize, but rather motivate us in concern for our students, faculty, and school administration. We are all going to get a little tired, and these kids are all we've got.
