LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: WE MUST NOT ONLY LOVE ONE ANOTHER, BUT DO GOOD

This article comes from our electronic archive and has not been reviewed. It may contain glitches.

To the Editor,

You recently published a letter written by a person whose name I no longer remember. But it is not pertinent to the statements made in the letter.

The gist of the letter was that "Christians" were killing each other all over the world, whereas atheists, which the writer claimed to be, are benevolent and have never harmed anyone.

The writer failed to do sufficient homework and delve into his subject matter deeply enough, committing the serious error of making general statements that are patently false.

First of all, the folks shootings at each other in Ireland, Lebanon, Bosnia, etc., are "Religionists" not "Christians." There's a world of difference. Religion is man's concept of what his relationship to God should be. True Christianity is God's concept of what our relationship with Him should be. The latter is clearly set out in God's Word, the Bible.

But natural man believes he has a better plan than God's and sets about to manufacture his own religion. The result is what we have going on around the world today.

Then we have the painful situation where all who call themselves Christian may not be. Christ admonished those that follow Him not only to love one another, but to love and do good to all mankind. He also warned in Matthew about those who would come claiming to have done great works in His name, to which He will respond, "I never know you, depart from Me, ye that work iniquity." Certainly those that kill in the name of their man-made religion will be among such.

Now as to those "benevolent" atheists. Has the writer never heard of that great atheist, Joseph Stalin? How many slaughtered souls to his credit? 40 million? What about the Godless cultist, Adolph Hitler? 6 million? Has anyone attempted to put a number to the millions murdered by that supreme atheist, Mao Tse-tung?

Neither the atheist nor the religionist can be proud of their records. Whether we like it or not, whether we believe it or not, we are all going to meet God, either as a loving Father or as a Holy and Righteous Judge.
