LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: EARTHQUAKES, GAMBLING AND THANKS: DURING EMERGENCY IN CAPE GIRARDEAU, YOUR HOSPITALITY WAS APPRECIATED

Dear Editor,

Every community enjoys a pat on the back and the folks in Cape Girardeau surely deserve one.

On Jan. 17th (the day of California's earthquake and the Midwest's blizzard) we were travelling south, staying at your Cape Budget Motel. My husband suspected heart problems and we were forced to call upon your emergency units.

I can't say enough kind words about the people and facilities who helped us. This includes the paramedics, fire department, the staff at St. Francis Medical Center, the employees of the Budget Motel, the man who freed the ice from my windshield wipers.

The unexpected overnight stay at the hospital was made tolerable by the smiling, helpful people who live or work in Cape Girardeau. My heartfelt thanks!

Sincerely,

MRS. ROBERT E. MORLEY
