LETTERS: MIKE ROYKO HITS NEW LOW

This article comes from our electronic archive and has not been reviewed. It may contain glitches.

Dear Editor:

In the Aug. 24 Southeast Missourian, Mike Royko hit a new low. He criticized Bob Dole for being old. I am old too and if he isn't by now, he will be old one day, too.

Republicans do not call "them" blacks, Afro-Americans or Negroes any more than do Democrats. We have blacks we call our friends. Can Mike Royko say that?

For when he says Republicans, he means all of us -- "them" and us.

Yes, and most of us still "grouse" about abortion just as Mike Royko probably grouses about women's "rights" and forget about fathers, grandparents and "oh, yes there's another little human you forgot about too." (But you can't see that tiny one, so just kill him or her!)

It is the Democrats who grouse about children killing children, when most Republicans predicted this would happen when mothers were giving the "go ahead" to kill their own babies in the '70 by the Supreme Court liberals. Now the killing of humans by humans is rampant and the poor Democrats are still wondering why but haven't the sense to try to stop it.

He shouldn't criticize Bob Dole because he is old, irritable and sharp-tongued. Royko is that himself.

Mike Royko didn't criticize Bob Dole's character -- he couldn't.
