LETTERS: DIFFERENT, BUT THE SAME

To the editor:

Gov. Mel Carnahan is using $76 million in tax dollars to push his School-to-Work plan. Nothing in School-to-Work gives us any way to better teach Johnny to read and write. Time-consuming, money-consuming, attention-consuming bureaucracies are designed to hide the fact that the emperor has no clothes and this plan has no education.

Two planks of the Communist Manifesto are government control of education and government control of labor. School-to-Work accomplishes both. In Illinois the plan is called Education-to-Careers. In Argentina, where my brother is, it is called multifaceted education. Different names. Same plan.
