LETTERS: IMMIGRANT CRIMINALS

To the editor:

There was an article in Parade magazine Feb. 25 dealing with organized crime. The article says the Cosa Nostra has enjoyed dominance in organized crime for 65 years but has finally been reduced to a fraction of its former size. But this partial victory has been turned into defeat by our elected officials. Now we not only have the remnants of the Cosa Nostra, but two new Mafia-type gangs that are composed of Russian and Chinese people who have been let into this country by our officials who deliberately ignore our immigration quotas and let everyone into our country who wishes to come.

The article states that 300,000 Russians were admitted in the late 1970s and early 1980s, but that number has escalated since then. It didn't give a specific number of Chinese but said that the Chinese population in the United States is exploding.

We have three major problems in this country which the elected officials assure us they are trying to solve. One of them is jobs. If we don't have enough jobs for Americans, how are we going to have jobs for millions of foreigners? Which leads us to problem No. 2, which is government spending. If all these foreigners don't get jobs, then they will be on welfare, which will put more strain on the taxpayers and our national debt.

Another big problem is pollution. People and their activities are the sole cause of pollution. So it stands to reason that more people means more pollution and, therefore, more billions of dollars out of the taxpayers' pockets to pay for it.

Of course, there is crime itself, which was the main issue of the article. I don't hardly think anyone wants more of that.

The people have been complaining about these issues for years, and not only have they been ignored, but it seems that our elected officials are doing everything in their power to make matters worse.

I suggest that this is the year (and maybe the last year) to do something about these problems. Every congressman who has voted against the best interests of the American people or has failed to do anything about this immigration problem should be voted out of office at the first opportunity. This includes all who have vote for NAFTA and GATT and those who have failed to keep our troops out of foreign wars. Congress has the power to keep the president and also the Supreme Court in check if they would stop partying and taking trips all over the world at taxpayers' expense. Time doesn't allow all these activities plus taking care of their responsibilities too.
