To the editor:

To the graduating Class of 1999: You are embarking on an adventure. Although you do not remember the first one (your birth), this one will remain a milestone your entire life. Do not think, however, that this is your last milestone. It is only one of many that the future holds for you. Following are some suggestions you may want to keep in mind:

-- Every day is a new beginning. You cannot go back and redo yesterday, but you can make today and all your tomorrows better just by your attitude.

-- Although we have no promises of tomorrows, plan on them. Live for them. Live today as if what you do will always be a reflection of who you are.

-- Treat others the way you will want to be treated when you are very old, when you can't walk faster or articulate what you want to say because your minds does not control your body as it did when you were 18.

-- Do not expect of anyone what you do not expect from yourself. If you won't clean your room, don't expect anyone else to either. A good leader knows when to follow.

-- Be realistic about yourself. No one is perfect. Expecting perfection only sets us up for disappointment. On the other hand, don't set your goals so low that even a comatose patient could reach them.

-- When you walk out the door of your home, notice one thing that is pleasant about your surroundings. It is easy to overlook the beauty of the day in our rush-and-hurry life.

-- Last of all, enjoy your future. Let the marks you leave on your past be good ones. Find what it is in life that you really want to do. Don't settle for what make the money. Look for what fills the heart. This will bring true happiness.

May your future be bright and full of happiness and the kind of memories you will want to remember.
