LETTERS: GAMBLING SECTION, OPINION DON'T MESH

To the editor:

As one who participated in overcoming the threat posed by legalized gambling to our community, I was grateful to see the Southeast Missourian's editorial stance on that issue change to one of non-support over the past few years. I am wondering why, then, you chose to accept a major advertising supplement from the gambling industry in the Feb. 25 issue. I am sure you are free to decline advertising from groups you deem inappropriate.

God has allowed the Southeast Missourian tremendous influence in our community. That supplement was designed to cause Cape Girardeans to respond in ways you probably do not wish to promote. Please have the courage to exercise your responsibility in a way that reflects the admirable beliefs of the paper's leadership.
